Right to protect property and defend yourself

My friends and I have been having a discussion over email this past week about when you have a right to defend your property. I will be posting those emails when I have time to sort them out and get rid of all the junk. In the mean time. This story that fits exactly into our conversation just broke on CNN.

Harold Fish

Below is the link to a story I have been mistelling ever since I was told it. I have heard this story multiple times and it usually is the same. However, the real story is not as cut and dry as the story told to me and that I have told to others.

The story I always told was that a man was hiking and was attacked by three dogs. He pulled his gun and killed the dogs. Then a crazy homeless man came charging down the path from the same area as the dogs, screaming he was going to kill him. The man then fired a warning shot which did not stop the attacker so the man then shot the attacker. This story is always told as an example for not firing a warning shot, because I was tld that this was why he was charged and eventually convicted.

Well the story I have told so often and just the other day is not exactly the truth, but it is relatively close. Short and sweet, there were two dogs, they did charge at him, the man fired a warning shot which scared the dogs off, then the man came running at him, finally leading to the victim killing the charging man. This article, by MSNBC, which is impartial in my opinion, yeah I know unbelievable, tells a good story about what happened and the trial.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15199221//

Now if you have read the story, you know that this is obviously a one sided story since the other person is dead and can not tell his side. From the facts stated in this story, I find it hard to find this man guilty. Repeatedly it is said by the jury and the judge that this was a tragic accident. Well lets just go with that side of it instead of calling it a classic self defense tail.

If this was a tragic accident, does this man deserve to be put in jail for 10 years? This man was hiking. This accident would never have happened if the man had controlled his dogs and his temper. If this is an accident, wasn't it caused by the crazy man? If this is an accident, isn't Mr. Fish a victim as well?

I would also like to address the prosicussion arguement that Mr. Fish carries to large of a gun and loads hollow points. This man is a hiker, he carries the gun in case he is attacked by wild animals. Wouldn't you want a large gun with stopping power?

The procicusion also pointed out that he shot him in the chest, which obviously showed he intended to kill. IF YOU FIRE YOUR GUN, IT SHOULD ONLY BE WITH THE INTENTION TO KILL. You want the PC version, then you should shoot to stop. But that is the same as shooting to kill, cuz if you shoot properly and hit them in the chest, they are most likely going to die.

I am glad the reporter asked him why he didn't fight the guy or hit him with the gun. Well, what if Mr. Fish is not a fighter and the attacker is. Mr. Fish loses the fight and the gun and his life. This man had already fired the gun to scare the dogs off, what possible reason could the attacker have for charging if he did not intend harm and/or wasnt crazy. I do not run at a person who has just fired a weapon and is now pointing it at me. I run away from that person.

Taking the character portion into account and the fact that we only have one side. I have to say that just listening to the two peoples histories would automatically cause me to side with Fish. Clean history = one get out of jail free card for an "accident". History of being crazy and angry = dead for being crazy and angry.

Becoming a Prepper

So, I have been fighting hard not to become one of these nut jobs who thinks the world is going to end because Obama became president. Well I do not think the world is going to end because of Obama, but I do fear it might end in spite of Obama. I have been watching the stock market and it makes moves, it goes up and it goes down, all dependent on emotion. I have learned, in my short time trading, to live with this and not obsess about it. Hell, I have even made some money recently off of it. Which is good, because I can now use that money to start hedging my bets in case the worst happens and we are hit by bad inflation. I am sorry did I say worst, what I meant was impending happens. The worst is super inflation and if that happens we are screwed. We are bend over and kiss your ass good by the world will never be the same screwed.

Now to bring you all down to my scary ass level I want you to think about what would happen if you woke up and found out that your 10,000 dollars in savings was now only worth 100 dollars. A can of soup costs $10 or more, gas is $60 a gallon and rising, people are hungry and scared, suddenly people start robbing and stealing, not because they are bad but because they need to feed their family. Well you have a family, you have food, what are you to do? Or maybe you are one of those who was just about to go shopping and you have empty pantries. Now the $150 dollars it would have cost yesterday to fill it up only gets you a couple cans of cambells chicken soup.

WHAT DO YOU DO? Do you live in the city? Can you get away from the lunacy springing up outside? Do you join in and start breaking into other peoples houses looking for food? Was that a gun shot? Thats illegal!!! Where are the police? Hey, is that house on fire? Why would someone set the house on fire? I better call 911!!! All curcuits are busy? Oh shit!!! I better get out of dodge!!! Where do I go? Uh oh, I was going to fill up on gas tomorrow!!! Did the news say lines for gas were a mile long and that places were running out??? I heard they were not taking credit cards or checks or debit, well I dont have cash on me!!! Damn there are people looting the houses across the street!!! Will they come here? What do I do?!?!? I have to protect my family!!! I knew I shouldn't have sold my gun!!! Will my fire extenguisher stop them? NO, thats silly!!! Maybe I can reason with them? They sure look angry! Are they beating that man??? I will just get the family and huddle in the closet!!! There goes the front window!!! GET OUT OF HERE LOOTERS, THERE IS NOTHING TO TA.............

Marcus Luttrell is the the lone survivor of a seal team that was sent into Afghanistan's Hindu Kush mountains to kill a Taliban leader, Omar. His team was found out by goat herders. The team captured the goat herders and then debated whether to kill them or let them go. They chose to let them go and by doing so sealed their death warrant. The seals moved their position, but still had to stay in the area in order to complete their mission. Hours later they heard movement on a cliff above them, they hid. Taliban members started searching the area and one man peaked into a dark crevis where the last thing to go through his head was a bullet.

This started a massive fire fight where four seals fought over 100 Taliban. The Seals fought from a disadvantage from the start as the enemy held the high ground. The seals retreated down the mountain by jumping off cliffs and rolling down, once they stopped they immediately started fighting again while another member tumbled down. At the end of the battle their was only one man alive and he was wounded, the story continues as he escapes and evades the enemy through the mountains, is helped (saved) by Pushton tribesmen, and finally found by Army Rangers. For the full story, read Lone Survivor, by Maruc Luttrell, it is an amazing story, better then fiction, and truly a testament to Navy Seals.

Well, below is the story of how this survivor's dog has been shot and killed by PUNKs. Pure punks who deserve no pity and no rehabilitation, they deserve a bullet and a shallow grave. Read this story and try not to be outraged and not cry for the loss of humanity in America. Feel compassion for this man who has gone through so much and continues to have to endure more pain at the hands of punks and scum. This is one man, but how many more stories are there that do not have the high profile of Mr. Luttrell.

Transcript from Glenn Beck Radio Program:

CALLER: Hey, Glenn, thanks for taking my call. I just wanted to know, Friday you asked us to pray for Marcus and I was just seeing if you had an update today on what's going on with him.

GLENN: Yes, I do. Yes, I do. Marcus Luttrell is the lone survivor. He was part of the SEAL team. It was the biggest battle any SEAL in SEAL history. He was the only survivor. He lost his whole team. He was then taken by Al Qaeda and the Taliban and he was tortured beyond your wildest imagination and there they held him for a while. He's been sick. He still hasn't recovered from all of the things that they did to him and so he just has he's always in for his back and surgery and everything else.
On Thursday I believe it was, Wednesday or Thursday about 1:00 a.m., Marcus is a guy who doesn't sleep anymore at night. He sleeps during the daytime. And about 1:00 he happened to be awake and he heard a gunshot. He lives on a ranch with his mother in Texas. He grabs his gun and he goes outside. There he sees, I believe it was four. It may be three but I believe it was four young men 18 to 24 years old, all of them, where they had just shot his dog. Marcus' dog is named Dasy. Each letter represents D A S Y represents one of the fallen members of his team. It was given to him in recovery to help him through the recovery process. This dog means everything to Marcus. Marcus had his gun and he took it out and he put it right between the eyes of one of the guys. He was standing away from them, pointed right between the eyes. Now, here's a SEAL team member who is wildly, he's just, he is having trouble, man. He is still recovering from his injuries. He had just gotten out of surgery. He's standing there with a gun between the guy's eyes. He doesn't fire. All four and he's just saying, "You killed my dog." They executed his dog. "You killed my dog. Why would you do that?" They run. They get into his car. Marcus gets into his truck, chases them over four counties, finally runs them into a ditch. He calls the Rangers.
The Texas Rangers arrive and these guys, when the Texas Rangers are taking these guys away, Marcus has held them there by a gun. As the Rangers are taking these guys away, they're threatening Marcus' life and saying, "When we get out, we're coming for you next. First it was your dog. It's going to be you next. You don't know who you're messin' with." That's when Marcus kind of snapped just a little bit and said to the Ranger, "Excuse me, ranger, do you know who I am?" He said, "Yes, sir, Mr. Luttrell, I do." He said, "You might want to explain to these punks because I could have killed them 600 different ways and if I wanted to kill you guys after what you would have done what you just did to my dog, I would have pulled you down into my basement and I would have tortured you for days and you wouldn't have died until you begged me for death. So before you start saying you're going to come after me, you better learn who you've just whose dog you just killed."

They get into jail. These four punks have been killing dogs in Marcus' county now for a month, for joys, joy rides and kicks. Tonight Marcus is going to be on television and he's going to tell the story, and I'm showing the pictures of these dirtbags. And I want you to call PETA, I want you to call every activist you know. I want you to hear the story of a hero whose dog was executed. In all of the times that everybody is saying, oh, guns gotta be taken off the streets, you gun nuts. Here's a responsible gun owner that with everything he's gone through, everything that that dog means, these dirtbags come and kill his dog. He could have killed them all. He probably would have enjoyed it, justifiably so and he didn't because he's an American hero. Keep him in your prayers.
